Instructions for authors

Please follow the instruction below:

Abstract submission

The abstracts should be 1 page long and must include one illustrative figure outlining the quality of the results. A comparison with reference solutions or SPHERIC benchmark cases is highly encouraged.

A pdf version of the abstract should be emailed to

by July 25, 2024 August 1, 2024.  

Authors may choose one of the following two categories for their abstract submission:

Authors are requested to indicate in their email: whether the abstract refers to (a) fundamental SPH research or (b) SPH practical/industrial applications assign their contribution to at least three workshop topics. The email should have "SPHERIC 2024 Abstract - Last_Name_of_Corresponding_Author" as the subject.

Review process

The abstracts will be assessed by at least three SPH experts from the scientific committee using a blind peer-review process. The quality of the abstracts will be assessed using averaged ratings for three equally important criteria than can be found in the "guide for authors and reviewers" document also, briefly highlighted below:

  • for a fundamental SPH research abstract the criteria are:
    • (1) novelty
    • (2) applicability/expected impact
    • (3) improvements/quality of results
  • for an industrial application abstract the criteria are:
    • (1) novelty
    • (2) usability
    • (3) competitiveness

Notification of acceptance for publication and presentation will be given on or before August 15, 2024.

Extended Abstract

After notification of accepted abstracts, authors are required to prepare and submit their extended abstract according to the SPHERIC templates and the extended abstract should be no more than 3 pages. Templates are available for MS Word or LaTeX.  It is important NOT to put any page numbers in the final extended abstract. It is also recommended not to spend too much space explaining "standard/well known SPH equations" on the extended abstract, as readers are assumed to be familiar with the basic SPH formulation. 

Extended abstracts should be submitted before September 15, 2024.  in pdf format via email. The subject of the email should be "SPHERIC-Zhuhai-Last_Name_of_Corresponding_author". Students can enter the "Libersky Prize" by indicating their intention on the submission email. 

At least one unique registration must correspond to each extended abstract and the registration should be finalized no later than September 30, 2024. This author will be the presenter at the workshop. There is a maximum of one presentation for each delegate during the workshop. 

Extended abstracts with no registered authors by September 30, 2024  will be marked invalid and will NOT be published in the workshop proceedings or have a presentation slot (cf. Registration and payment Section).

Posters

Please submit you poster file in PDF format to spheric2024zhuhai@outlook.com.
Recommended poster dimension: 900mm(width)*1200mm(height).
Complimentary poster printing will be provided for all presenters.

Awards
  • Student prize (The best/Outstanding/Excellent Student Paper Award): The student prizes are awarded at every SPHERIC Workshop for the best works by students, based on their presentations and final papers, as selected by the Scientific Committee.
  • Best paper prize: Two best paper prizes will be awarded for authors of full papers(or extended abstract) selected by the Scientific Committee in the field of (a) Fundamental SPH Research or (b) Practical SPH Applications. The authors or presenters are not limited to students. 
  • Best poster prize: Two best poster prizes will be awarded for authors of posters selected by the Scientific Committee in the field of (a) Fundamental SPH Research or (b) Practical SPH Applications. The authors or presenters are not limited to students. 
Supporting Journals
Selected SPHERIC papers will be published in the special column in journals including:
  • Journal of Marine Science and Application (JMSA)
  • Journal of Hydrodynamics (JHD)

How to get to Zhuhai

By airplane

You may choose either a flight to Zhuhai Jinwan Airport (IATA: ZUH, ICAO: ZGSD),
or a flight to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (IATA: CAN, ICAO: ZGGG) plus a transfer bus/Taxi to Zhuhai,
or a flight to Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport (IATA: SZX, ICAO: ZGSZ) plus a transfer bus/Taxi to Zhuhai (with Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge, it takes just about 1 hour by car)
