Keynotes Speakers

	Keynote title: High-accurate SPH modeling and applications for fluid-structure interactions in ocean engineering Prof. A-Man Zhang Harbin Engineering University, China A-Man Zhang is the National Level Distinguished Professor at Harbin Engineering University, leader of Fluid-Structure Interaction Research Team. His main research fields include bubble dynamics and fluid-structure interaction. He has undertaken more than 40 scientific research projects, including the National Key Research and Development Program and National Natural Science Foundation Projects. He established the unified equation for bubble dynamics, constructed fully coupled gas-liquid-solid dynamic models and methods, led the development of the FSLAB fundamental industrial software for fluid-structure interaction and the construction of a large-scale underwater specialized scientific experimental facility, developed new technologies for efficient energy transfer and protection, and the research achievements have been widely applied. Academic papers are published on renowned journals including Journal of Fluid Mechanics and Journal of Computational Physics, with more than 10,000 citations. Received multiple awards such as the National Innovation Competition Award, the Xplore Prize, Second Prize of the National Technology Invention Award, Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, Top 2% of World's Leading Scientists and Highly Cited Scholar of China. Served as editor in chief of Journal of Marine Science and Application, associate editor of Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences and editorial board member of multiple academic journals including Applied Ocean Research and Theoretical and Applied Mechanics Letters, among others.
	Keynote title: Conservation and dissipation of energy in free-surface flows simulated with SPH models Prof. Andrea Colagrossi CNR-INM, Italy Andrea Colagrossi is employed as head researcher at the CNR-INM, Institute of Marine engineering of the Italian Research Council (CNR). In 2005 he obtained his PhD degree in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics at the University of Rome "La Sapienza". Starting from 2006 for a period of ten years he belonged to the SPHERIC Steering Committee. 2015 and 2018 he won the 1st and 2nd editions of the "Joe Monaghan Prize award", for outstanding advances in the SPHERIC Grand Challenges. He was involved in several research projects in Computational Fluid Dynamic frameworks, in different fields spanning from aeronautical, marine, naval and coastal engineering contexts and is the author of 79 peer-reviewed journal articles. The main focus of his research is the theoretical and computational aspects of Mesh-Free numerical methods in naval and marine research activities.
	Keynote title: Spiral Development of the Moving Particle Semi-implicit Method through User-University-Vendor Collaboration Prof. Seiichi Koshizuka The University of Tokyo, Japan Seiichi Koshizuka has been working as a professor of the University of Tokyo since 2004. His research subjects are particle method, computational fluid dynamics, visualization, verification and validation etc. He has been developing Moving Particle Semi-implicit (MPS) method which is one of the most popular meshless methods for incompressible viscous flow with free surface. The MPS method he developed has been commercialized by a venture company where he is one of the board members. The commercialized MPS software is currently used by various clients from industry. He received Kawai Medal from Japan Society for Computational Engineering and Science (JSCES) in 2010 and IACM Fellows Award in 2018. During 2014 to 2016, he served as the President of JSCES. He is a member of General Council of IACM.
	Keynote title: An SPH Formulation based on the Fulfillment of Requirements on Spatial Discretization Schemes Prof. Christian Weißenfels University of Augsburg, Germany Prof. Weißenfels is a professor for Mechanics at University of Augsburg, Germany. He works on Data-driven Computational Materials Science and Engineering. He is dedicated to the application of artificial intelligence algorithms to close the gaps in understanding materials and their processes and properties. Another area of his interest is to develop new simulation methods to approximate mathematical equations as accurately and efficiently as possible, even in the context of technique-demanding processes.

Instructions for authors

Please follow the instruction below:

Abstract submission

The abstracts should be 1 page long and must include one illustrative figure outlining the quality of the results. A comparison with reference solutions or SPHERIC benchmark cases is highly encouraged.

A pdf version of the abstract should be emailed to

by ~~July 25, 2024~~ August 1, 2024.

Authors may choose one of the following two categories for their abstract submission:

(a) fundamental SPH research (MS Word and Latex Template)
(b) SPH practical/industrial applications (MS Word and Latex Template)

Authors are requested to indicate in their email: whether the abstract refers to (a) fundamental SPH research or (b) SPH practical/industrial applications assign their contribution to at least three workshop topics. The email should have "SPHERIC 2024 Abstract - Last_Name_of_Corresponding_Author" as the subject.

Review process

The abstracts will be assessed by at least three SPH experts from the scientific committee using a blind peer-review process. The quality of the abstracts will be assessed using averaged ratings for three equally important criteria than can be found in the "guide for authors and reviewers" document also, briefly highlighted below:

for a fundamental SPH research abstract the criteria are:
- (1) novelty
- (2) applicability/expected impact
- (3) improvements/quality of results
for an industrial application abstract the criteria are:
- (1) novelty
- (2) usability
- (3) competitiveness

Notification of acceptance for publication and presentation will be given on or before August 15, 2024.

Extended Abstract

After notification of accepted abstracts, authors are required to prepare and submit their extended abstract according to the SPHERIC templates and the extended abstract should be no more than 3 pages. Templates are available for MS Word or LaTeX. It is important NOT to put any page numbers in the final extended abstract. It is also recommended not to spend too much space explaining "standard/well known SPH equations" on the extended abstract, as readers are assumed to be familiar with the basic SPH formulation.

Extended abstracts should be submitted before September 15, 2024. in pdf format via email. The subject of the email should be "SPHERIC-Zhuhai-Last_Name_of_Corresponding_author". Students can enter the "Libersky Prize" by indicating their intention on the submission email.

At least one unique registration must correspond to each extended abstract and the registration should be finalized no later than September 30, 2024. This author will be the presenter at the workshop. There is a maximum of one presentation for each delegate during the workshop.

Extended abstracts with no registered authors by September 30, 2024 will be marked invalid and will NOT be published in the workshop proceedings or have a presentation slot (cf. Registration and payment Section).

Awards

Student prize (The best/Outstanding/Excellent Student Paper Award): The student prizes are awarded at every SPHERIC Workshop for the best works by students, based on their presentations and final papers, as selected by the Scientific Committee.
Best paper prize: Two best paper prizes will be awarded for authors of full papers(or extended abstract) selected by the Scientific Committee in the field of (a) Fundamental SPH Research or (b) Practical SPH Applications. The authors or presenters are not limited to students.
Best poster prize: Two best poster prizes will be awarded for authors of posters selected by the Scientific Committee in the field of (a) Fundamental SPH Research or (b) Practical SPH Applications. The authors or presenters are not limited to students.

SPH Training Day

The traditional Training Day will be offered on October 17th, 2024, which is suitable for researchers who are familiar with the principles of SPH but are just beginning their work in the field, or who want to get a grasp of the practical applications of the method. It is also an opportunity for experienced SPH developers and users to share their insights and ideas. Three theoretical lectures will be given in the morning session with speakers. A practical session will be held in the afternoon session with open-source SPH solver SPHinXsys available and Ocean-Connect HPCC. Training day lectures:
